Global assumptions and projected systems innovations
The IGC global assumptions and projected systems innovations for 2035 and 2050 were prepared by IGC research groups. System groups were asked to follow these directions:
We identified nine systems that are fundamental to geodesign. Participants were assigned to nine systems groups and a tenth group focusing on global change assumptions. Assignments were based on interests expressed by participants.
The groups were asked to identify global changes and system innovations that will occur by 2035, and others by 2050, that present challenges and to identify useful design and planning response strategies.
The attached powerpoint slides illustrate and share ideas; each participant chose whether to adopt a particular innovation for their project, and how to design or plan for it. The key elements of an innovation description are a brief description, key website URLs and illustrations.
Click on the poster thumbnails in the middle column below to download A0-sized plot-ready posters in pdf format that show 12-at-a-time readable versions of the relevant Assumptions and Innovations. For some of the systems, there were more than twelve innovations submitted so the pdf has more than one A0 page.
Click on the display slide thumbnail in the third column to download Microsoft Powerpoint format presentations comprising all of the Assumptions or Innovations for that group. We provide the powerpoint files so that end users can tailor or translate the text to meet local needs.

The global assumptions and the associated specific concerns accessed below were developed by teams of IGC participants and reflect current projections, forecasts, and predictions.
In order to guide, but not overwhelm, conversations across the geodesign projects, the number of assumptions and innovations has been limited.
The global assumptions and system innovations describe ideas that may be relevant to particular projects, but they are not relevant for all projects. Recommendations for specific outcomes or goals are not included; however, each assumption and innovation is written with the knowledge that individual nations and municipalities do have such goals.
